GovCampNSW is a call to people who want to come and be part of a conversation about innovation in government in NSW.
For the team organising GovCampNSW, as well as our partners and supporters, it is crucial that the vital lessons and momentum from a day such as this are not lost. Our commitment to you, the participants, is to ensure that the learnings and combined experience from this inaugural GovCamp is passed to those in government – federal, state or local – who are listening and seeking opportunities for innovation and good practice in open government.

| “I am excited that New South Wales will be playing host to our first GovCamp. As part of the state government’s Information and Privacy Commission, one of my roles as Information Commissioner is to be a champion for open government.
In the current NSW State Plan, of 32 major objectives, Number 31 is to “Improve government transparency by increasing access to government information”. The Office of the Information Commissioner has been tasked by the NSW government to meet that goal and it is a role I take most seriously. In my work, I meet many representatives of government agencies who are looking for new ways to deliver services to NSW citizens, both more efficiently and effectively. It is clear that in many jurisdictions around the world and locally, “open government” provides many useful strategies and tools for government to better perform its role, while also meeting the promise of transparency and improved access. I will be participating for the full day at GovCampNSW and I invite you to join me and others in what will certainly be a day of inspiring conversation. I look forward to meeting many of you and learning from your experiences.” Links NSW Information and Privacy Commission Office of the Information Commissioner NSW 2021 – State Plan: Accountability goals [PDF]

“Globalisation, greater interconnectedness through ICT and the increased advocacy of NGOs have all contributed to making citizens more aware of their rights and more demanding of governments.
The public sector cannot hold all the answers and must look beyond itself in developing solutions to public issues. GovCampNSW is excellently placed to bring together those who can assist in searching out those solutions.” Links NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet

| “Innovative public service depends on collaboration and connectivity – between agencies and jurisdictions and with businesses and non-profit organisations.
I’m delighted to see this GovCamp taking place in Sydney which can add momentum and creativity to the search for new ideas and new angles on the big issues facing government and the public service. I’ll be keen to see the results of your work… hope it goes well!” Links |
